← Back to Itineraries

Bali is many things to many people β€” spiritual retreat, surfer's paradise, design destination, and one of the world's great wellness capitals. For the luxury traveller, it offers something rarer still: a place where exceptional hotels are woven into landscapes of genuine, ancient beauty, where the culture is still very much alive, and where eight days feels just right for experiencing three very distinct versions of the island.

This itinerary moves from the beach clubs and sunsets of Seminyak in the south, up into the cool mist and rice terraces of Ubud in the centre, and finally down to the dramatic clifftops of Uluwatu β€” combining the best of Bali's landscapes, culture, and accommodation in a single arc that feels unhurried rather than rushed.

Best time to visit: May to September β€” Bali's dry season brings clear skies, low humidity, and ideal conditions for both the beach and the highlands. July and August are peak season; May, June, and September offer the same good weather with notably fewer crowds. The wet season (October–April) brings afternoon downpours but lush greenery β€” still a perfectly enjoyable time to visit with the right hotel base.
Days 1 – 2
Arrive Denpasar β€” Seminyak & the Beach Seminyak

Fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), Bali's main gateway, just minutes from the beach clubs and boutique hotels of Seminyak. Your first two days are designed to decompress β€” to find the rhythm of the island before moving deeper into its interior.

Days 3 – 5
Ubud β€” Rice Terraces, Temples & the Arts Ubud

An hour's drive north through small villages and increasingly lush countryside, Ubud is Bali's cultural and spiritual heart β€” a town of artisans, healers, dance performances, and some of the finest hotel settings in the world. The surrounding landscape of river valleys, rice paddies, and ancient temples is what most people picture when they imagine Bali at its most beautiful.

Ubud wellness tip: The Four Seasons Sayan spa offers some of the best treatments in Southeast Asia β€” the Balinese massage and the traditional boreh spice wrap are outstanding. Book your treatment on arrival rather than leaving it to the last day; prime slots fill quickly, especially in peak season.
Days 6 – 7
Uluwatu β€” Clifftops, Fire Dance & South Bali Uluwatu

The Bukit Peninsula β€” Bali's dramatic southern headland β€” feels completely different from the rest of the island. Here, limestone cliffs drop vertically to turquoise water, surf breaks are world-class, and the clifftop temple of Pura Luhur Uluwatu is among the most dramatically situated Hindu temples on earth.

Consider an extension to Nusa Penida: A 45-minute fast boat from Sanur, Nusa Penida is Bali's most dramatic offshore island β€” with the famous Kelingking Beach cliff, Angel's Billabong, and crystal-clear snorkelling with manta rays. Add a night or two between Ubud and Uluwatu for an extraordinary detour.

Practical Information

Getting around: Hire a private driver for the day β€” it costs approximately USD 40–60 and is by far the most comfortable and flexible way to explore Bali. Gojek (Indonesia's equivalent of Uber) is excellent for shorter transfers within areas. The road between Ubud and Seminyak takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic; between Ubud and Uluwatu, allow 90 minutes.

Currency: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). ATMs are widely available in tourist areas; withdraw larger amounts as machines have low withdrawal limits. Most luxury hotels, restaurants, and boutiques accept credit cards. Always carry cash for small purchases and temple offerings.

Temple etiquette: A sarong and sash are required to enter all Hindu temples β€” these are provided or available to hire at temple entrances. Menstruating women are respectfully asked not to enter the inner temple sanctuaries. Remove shoes before entering any temple building.

Water: Do not drink tap water. Bottled water is inexpensive and universally available. Most luxury hotels provide complimentary filtered water in-room.

Visas: Most Western passport holders receive a 30-day visa on arrival at Bali's airport, extendable once for a further 30 days. An e-VOA (electronic Visa on Arrival) can also be purchased in advance. Check current requirements before travel.
