Marrakech assaults the senses the moment you step through the airport doors — the dry heat, the scent of rose water and spice, the sound of a city that has been trading and cooking and living in the same pink-walled medina for nine centuries. It is one of the most stimulating cities on earth, and also one of the most beautiful.
Five days is enough to absorb the medina without rushing it, make the essential Atlas Mountains excursion, and still have an afternoon for the Majorelle Garden and a morning for the hammam. This is a city that rewards those who allow themselves to get genuinely lost in it.
Planning Marrakech?
We'll place you in the right riad or palace hotel, arrange your Atlas Mountain excursion, and handle the restaurant reservations that matter — so you experience Marrakech at its most extraordinary.
- Day 1 PMHammam at Your HotelThe traditional Moroccan hammam — steam room, exfoliation, and massage — is the perfect introduction. La Mamounia's spa is exceptional; Royal Mansour's is unparalleled.
- Day 1 EveDjemaa el-Fna at DuskArrive at the great square as the sun sets — snake charmers, storytellers, musicians, and dozens of food stalls materialise from nowhere. One of travel's genuinely great spectacles. Dinner at Nomad or Café Arabe for the rooftop views over the medina.
- Day 2 AMMedersa Ben YoussefThe 14th-century Quranic school — some of the finest tilework and carved cedar in the Islamic world, surrounding a serene courtyard. Arrive early before tour groups arrive.
- Day 2 PMMajorelle Garden & YSL MuseumYves Saint Laurent's electric-blue garden — cobalt walls, tropical plants, and remarkable tranquillity in the middle of the city. The adjacent YSL Museum traces his extraordinary relationship with Morocco.
- Day 3The SouksThe covered Souk Semmarine, the dyers' quarter (carpets hanging over indigo pits), the leather tanneries in Souk Chouara (best viewed from the terraces of neighbouring shops), Bahia Palace. End the day at Le Foundouk for dinner.

- Day 5Final Morning & DepartLast mint tea at Café de France overlooking Djemaa el-Fna, then airport transfer to Marrakech Menara (RAK).
Practical Information
Bargaining: Expected and enjoyable in the souks. Offer 40–50% of the first price and negotiate with good humour. Walking away often results in the price coming down further. Never agree to a price you don't intend to pay.
Dress: Morocco is a Muslim country — cover shoulders and knees in the medina and at monuments. Resort dress is fine within your riad and at La Mamounia.
Language: Darija (Moroccan Arabic) and Amazigh (Berber) locally. French is the most useful second language for non-Arabic speakers; basic French goes further than English in most interactions.
Getting around: Petits taxis are metered and inexpensive. Uber now operates in Marrakech. The medina itself is pedestrian — you'll walk everywhere inside the walls.
Riads: The finest riads are behind unmarked doors in narrow lanes — that mystery is half the charm. Your transfer driver will know how to find them; trust the directions your hotel provides.
