← Back to Itineraries

Thailand's two most iconic island destinations offer completely different flavours of luxury — and a week is just enough to experience both at their finest. This itinerary pairs the dramatic limestone cliffs and five-star beach resorts of Phuket with the lush hillsides and boutique hideaways of Koh Samui, connected by a short domestic flight.

Whether you're planning a honeymoon, a milestone anniversary, or simply a long-overdue escape, this route delivers the best of Thai luxury without compromise.

💡
Best time to visit: November to April for both islands. Phuket's west coast and Koh Samui's north and west sides see calmer seas and clear skies during this period. Avoid May–October on Phuket's Andaman side.
Days 1 – 2
Arrive in Phuket — Settle In & Explore Phuket

Fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT). Most major international hubs connect via Bangkok (BKK or DMK). A private transfer to your resort takes 30–60 minutes depending on where you're staying.

Spend your first afternoon unwinding — resist the urge to explore straight away. Order a welcome drink at your resort, take a dip, and let the time zone catch up with you.

Recommended Stay · Phuket
Amanpuri, Phuket
The original Aman, set on a private headland above Pansea Beach. Freestanding Thai-style pavilions, exceptional dining, and the finest pool on the island. Book through Escape Unlock for: upgrade on arrival (subject to availability); daily breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom, served in the restaurant (already included in property rates); USD 100 Food & Beverage credit (not combinable, no cash value if unredeemed); early check-in / late check-out (subject to availability); and complimentary Wi-Fi.

On Day 2, hire a long-tail boat for a private half-day exploring the quieter coves around Phuket — Ao Sane, Nui Bay, and the waters off Coral Island are excellent choices. Return for lunch at the resort, then spend the afternoon at leisure before dinner in Phuket Old Town.

Days 3 – 4
Phang Nga Bay & Beach Days Phuket

A full-day excursion to Phang Nga Bay is one of the highlights of any Phuket trip. The bay's towering limestone karsts rising from emerald waters are unlike anywhere else in Thailand. Book a private boat rather than a group tour for the full experience.

Day 4 is your final full day in Phuket — keep it relaxed. Morning yoga or a Muay Thai class at the resort, a long lunch at the beach, and an afternoon cooking class if you'd like to bring Thai flavours home.

🛥
Private boat tip: Your hotel concierge can arrange a full-day private speedboat for around 12,000–18,000 THB. Always preferable to group tours — you set the pace and choose the stops.
Days 5 – 7
Fly to Koh Samui — Hillside & Beach Luxury Koh Samui

Take a morning domestic flight from HKT to Koh Samui (USM) — Bangkok Airways operates this route several times daily, typically via Bangkok. Flight time is approximately 1.5 hours direct or 3–4 hours with a connection. Arrive in time for lunch at your resort.

Koh Samui has a different character to Phuket — smaller, more intimate, and with a cluster of extraordinary hillside resorts in the northeast of the island around Chaweng Noi and Bang Rak.

Recommended Stay · Koh Samui
Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
Perched on a hillside above the Gulf of Thailand with private-pool villas cascading down to a secluded beach. The views are simply extraordinary. Book through Escape Unlock for: daily breakfast for two; USD 100 hotel credit (USD 200 for suites & private retreats); room upgrade to next category (subject to availability); and early check-in / late check-out (subject to availability).

On your last evening, dine at one of Koh Samui's best restaurants — Jahn at Conrad Koh Samui offers exceptional views and refined Thai cuisine, or head to the night market in Fisherman's Village for a more local experience.

Fly in, fly out: Flying into Phuket and out of Koh Samui avoids backtracking and lets you cover more ground. Most international routing connects through Bangkok — book both legs as one itinerary for smoother connections.

Practical Information

Getting around: Private transfers are the most comfortable option on both islands. Grab (Thailand's Uber equivalent) works well in Phuket; Koh Samui taxis are metered. Avoid hiring a motorbike if you're not experienced — the roads can be unpredictable.

Currency: Thai Baht (THB). Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants, but carry some cash for markets and smaller local establishments.

Visas: Many nationalities receive a 30-day visa on arrival in Thailand. Check current requirements for your passport before travel.

Health: No vaccinations are required, though standard travel health precautions apply. Drink bottled water.
